Formation XI (4-1-3-2) - Larin America
Explanation of Formation
The team strategy is advanced defensive
line with off-side trap to support the vacancy of the midfield area. Fillol
stands as a goalkeeper. Nilton Santos would extremely go advanced to support
the wing-area as Maradona tend to be based on semi-side or central area than
the wing. Djalma Santos is balanced operator. Passarella acts as an advanced
libero to support midfield area at the offensive possession. Figueroa is strongly
an expectable defender of the team. Di Stefano has a central midfielder role,
would extremely stop the opponent’s game and also controls the rhythm of team
concisely. Maradona performs semi-side attacking midfielder, would mainly run
across between midfield to forward line. Garrincha always shows his phenomenon
dribbling on the right-wing. Zico is positioned in a three-quarter area and
would dangerously beat opponents or scores from the secondary line. Pele and Messi
would coordinate together or conduct the ball by themselves from the deep-lying
forward area to the top zone.

Congratulations to this compilation.
ReplyDeleteI detected a possible mistake: in 1944 you list Obdulio Varela as the 2nd best American player, yet in another thread at Big Soccer members forum this year you selected Severino Varela as the best player from Uruguay.
Which is correct?
Or did you change your mind in the meantime?
Very thanks for noticeable a mistake ! It must be Obdulio Varela in 1944 as the best Uruguayan player.
DeleteI've revised the same list in Bigsoccer
http://xtralegend.blogspot.com/2013/01/Rest-of-Latin-Americas.html
There is absolutely no way James Rodrigues should be third for 2014. He may have been good in the World Cup but he was not world class in overall season. I suggest Di Maria, since he was world class and witthout a doubt had a better season. Other than Di Maria I would suggest Artiro Vidal for 3rd. He has been world class for the last 2 seasons and was overall much better than James this season. There are a number of other players who had better overall seasons. For example thiago silva, tevez, etc. Even his teammate Cuadrado had a similar level throughout the season. James may have been very good in 4 games at the World Cup but that is no reason to classify his entire season as world class, certainly not above Vidal or Di Maria. Regards
ReplyDeleteOK, I revise for Di Maria.
DeleteI don't think Suarez should be 3rd for 2011. He was the best player at the Copa America(a terrible Copa America) but he was not world class in overall season. Not sure to suggest since it was a poor year for South Amaerican players. Falcao was probably better.
ReplyDeleteI’d not deny he wasn’t a world-class player in that season in both eredivise and premier league. Likes you said, it was low competitive seasonal year. I also consider Falcao was still not a world-class one in Portuguese League and his NT is clearly inferior to L.Suarez.
DeleteBut If you take into account Europa League, I would rank him ahead.
DeleteI meant that Suarez shouldn't be in the top 3 for 2010. Not sure who I would have ahead. Maybe Higuian. He scored 27 in the league.
ReplyDeletePlayers in lower standard league are always underrated and overlooked. I’d not specify his world-class status in that year but at least he was Ajax player of the year and played well in all competitions (Eredivisie, Dutch Cup, Int.Club and World Cup). Iguain could be better in domestic league but he was poor in Spanish Cup and UEFA Champion League. In World Cup, Suarez is still superior to Inguain.
DeleteI think that you have to put Ronaldo instead of Garrincha in the Best XI. And the formation will be something like this: Di Stéfano like a Central Holding Midfielder, Maradona and Zico both in the Offensive Midfielder position, Pelé like a forward in the left, Messi like a forward in the right and Ronaldo will be the main Striker.
ReplyDeleteDisparaging Romario again! In 2000 Romario was the best player in the WORLD MADE MORE THAN 60 GOALS IN THE YEAR OF BRAZILIAN CHAMPIONSHIP IN ADDITION TO TITLES
ReplyDeleteHe scored many goals in state championship and when consider average goal per game (0.78), it is not outstanding enough. His NT career is nothing but superb, scoring 7 goals in only 2 games in WC qualifying but only two matches is too few to put him among the best.
DeleteRomario was the top scorer in the World that year
DeleteYou saw what he did in the Mercosur Cup 2000?
and the Brazilian Championship 2000?
Messi scored more than 90 goals in 2012 playing in the Spanish league and was considered the best player in the world
His artillery in 2000
Copa Mercosur: 2000 - (11 goals) (Vasco da Gama)
Brazilian Championship: 2000 - (20 goals)
Carioca championship: 2000 - (19 goals) (Vasco da Gama)
Outside the game Palmeiras 3x4 Vasco you saw his performance on the field?
Gunner largest in the world in the 2000 season - (76 goals)
He deserved a little more consideration
I didn’t watch Romario in the 2000 Copa Mercosur because I think it is not need when consider his general profile. The Copa Mercosur is still much lower prestigious than Copa Libertadores Cup. It was created to make more TV money to participants. Copa Mercosur is not qualified based on performance in the league, just an invitation for top traditional clubs, is also competed by 5 nations, no Peruvian, Colombian and Ecuadorian clubs. Even the competition is participated by top clubs from those five nations, it is much less important tournament than Copa Libertadores Cup which already allowed five Brazilian clubs to participate in 2000.
DeleteWhen compare to Batistuta and Veron who superbly performed in top standard of competition likes Series A and both made great performance in international club and NT career also, there is no space for Romario in top three.
This is an ABSURD !
DeleteRomario won the Brazilian Championship 2000 with teams such as Palmeiras, Corinthians, Sao Paulo, Cruzeiro Grêmio
Did you watch the World Cup 2000 clubs?
The final was between Corinthians and Vasco x NOT between Manchester-Real Madrid
The 2000 Brasieiro Championship had a high level like the Italian Championship was only 4 good teams
Romario was rather better than Batistuta in 2000 only EUROPEAN NOT SEEN HIM PLAY is speaking this
I saw him play and say that it was better
As for Mercosur Cup had Argentine teams that are much better than Bolivian clubs here in America nobody cared for Copa Merconorte but here the Mercosur Cup had the same level as the Recopa Européis
Libertadores in that time only the Brazilian Champion and Brazil Cup were classified only 2 times
Mercosur already met classified the 2nd to 4th place in the Brazil Championchip
I’m sure Man Utd and Arsenal would have beaten the Brazilian clubs the tournament if held in England. So your assumption is that everyone who saw Romario played must be agree ? I suggest you to make a survey poll by people from several nations not only Brazil.
DeleteThe standard of the cup is a matter and the importance of tournament is another matter. As Mercosur Cup was held in a short time in history and the participation has no qualification system, it could not be much important in overall history of South American international club. It would be unfair to players in the era without Mercosur cup if overrate this tournament.
That you're English is overestimating teams of England
DeleteManchester won the Intercontinental Cup 99 with Palmeiras being slightly better
The Copa Mercosur met at the time the qualifying 2 a4º the Brasileirão which now go to the Copa Libertadores by classification is
Arsenal in my view was not all that out of England has never won one Champions
And in 2000 the champion of Champions Real Madrid also lost the game to Boca Juniors in Tokyo
We can not be thinking of possibilities that this tournament was in England
We have to take into account only what really happened and this tournament takes place in Brazil and the Brazilian teams were better than big European teams
That is actually not related to possibility to play in anywhere but the tournament was held in Brazil as a trial and after then it was not allowed to play in Brazil anymore. So, what to do with a trial tournament that held in South Americas and never held in Europe for entire tournament ? Other tournaments all are held in Japan or two legs with alternation between Europe and South America. It was a trial tournament which is less important than the others due to its abnormal format of host status. This case is an abnormal advantage and should not be applied to the rating equal to the others. You should praise Romario performance against higher and more justice standard of competition.
DeleteBut I analyzed with justice
DeleteSerie A had good times at the time: Rome, Milan, Inter, Lazio, Parma, Juventus
And in the Brazilian Championship: Vasco, São Caetano (Surprise of the season), São Paulo, Corinthians, Palmeiras, Flamengo, Gremio, athletic, Fluminense,Cruzeiro
It was a Playoff Championship which is more unpredictable than consecutive points
In the Table of Medal (Since 1936)
ReplyDeleteWhy is not Ronaldinho? If you located the winner in 2004, 2005, 2006, and third place and second place in 2003 and 2007 respectively.
OK, thanks, that is an omission of Ronaldinho in the table
DeleteWhy do you think Ronaldinho among the best in 2007 ?
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think Kaká better than Messi in 2008?
Ronaldinho was declining in 2007 but still not lower than his average. Also, there was not many great candidates in that year.
DeleteThis is seasonal year of 2007 - 2008 not calendar year and I'm sure Messi was much less influential to his team according to that year.
2015?
ReplyDeleteMessi
Neymar
Luis Suárez
OK, I'll update
DeleteOrsi in best 11... He has a fantastic palmares...
ReplyDeletehttps://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raimundo_Orsi
Di Maria should be no.1 in 2014. He was named Argentine Player of the Year ahead of Messi and rightfully so.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteWhat did Domingos da Guia achieve in 1944 to earn the No 1 spot?
Sorry for late reply. It is not confidential that 1940s Brazilian players rating is subjective but Domingos Da Guia was arguably during his peak career.
DeleteI thought you had a point system for the 1940s for South America, a continent not affected by the war.
DeleteMany people regard Carioca champion Zizinho as the best both in 1943 and 1944.
In your annual Top3 player list you have total scores for South American players until 1942.
Do not you plan to extend that point system, at least for South America, between 1943 and 1946 as well?
In that period, there were many leagues not held. I think the World Player of the year is somewhat meaningless.
DeleteI understand it is meaningless to choose the World Player of the year between 1943 and 1946.
ReplyDeleteBut what about calculating points just for South American players?
In 1942 Moreno has 74.4, ahead of Pedernera with 72.0; which of course coincides with your American ranking.
It would be good to see similar points for South American players between 1943 and 1946, to see why they were ranked in that particular order.
You have to replace Djalma Santos with José Andrade.
ReplyDeleteI replace for several days ago.
DeleteWhy is Santamaria in the team? He is a queen bronze while Chumpitaz or Nasazzi are queen silver in PHF.
ReplyDeleteOK I will replace him by Chumpitaz. Thanks for notice.
DeleteMaybe Mazurkiewicz in the best XI? Same class of Fillol but more skilled and higher perform state.
ReplyDeletePlayer who is ranked lower in PHF could be appeared in higher place of squad selection is true but for the case that they have limited on opportunity and sufficient higher peak. I haven't settle down formula yet and I think I will do it soon. Marurkiewicz anyway has got more opportunity than Filol in int.club but less in Int.country. When Mazurkiewicz score in PHF is less than that of Filol 0.6 point, he is not in a position to take advantage.
DeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI discovered the movie, Romario play in FC Barcelona at UCL.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1R7HZttm9rk&t=
King regards
Messi verry nice
ReplyDeleteElias Figueroa was the best South American football defender, Daniel Passarella was very good, Hector Chumpitaz too, but you forgot about a defender almost as good as Fgueroa, Carlos Gamarra, especially Internacional-RS and Corinthians-SP, did not commit faults, Gamarra was shot as the best defender of the 1998 World Cup and the best modern South American football defender, any true specialist in South American football can confirm this.
ReplyDeleteThe team is not balanced at all in my opinion
ReplyDeleteI would have done a 4231 (even if it means Garrincha out for Zico):
Fillol
J.L. Andrade Passarella Figueroa N.Santos
Monti (Destroyer) DiStefano (as box to box)
Zico Maradona Messi
Pele
I would switch zico and Messi in this case and maybe would try Falcao in replacement of Monti for Joga Bonita/La Nuestra style of play
DeleteWhat would the team be like if you had to include Ronaldo and exclude Zico?
ReplyDeletePele will be withdrawn to trequartista and R9 is a target man.
DeleteIs it up to date with your latest ranking method ?
ReplyDeleteOnce again with so many attacking players the 343 so loved by Cruyff and the positional game is made for it.
ReplyDelete------------------------Fillol
---J.L. Andrade Figueroa N.Santos
----------------------Passarella
------------------DiStefano Zico
---------Garrincha Maradona Messi (CA2007)
-------------------------Pelé
I already feel Garrincha would have troubles to counter-press as requested by the tactic, in this case one solution could be to put back Messi on the right and Zico on the left as he played a bit younger.
As a replacement to Garrincha, Didi may suit the remaining midfield role, even more Falcao but we loose greatness.
Noticed some typos: Socrates, Jairzinho and Jair da Rosa are Brazilians not Argentinians
ReplyDeleteCould you provide the football evaliation performance in Domestic, International/Country club please of the top 50 players like you did for top 50 all time player ?
ReplyDeleteIt would be really appreciated.
You need a real CM, also a real CF. My team in a 4-1-3-2, would be:
ReplyDeleteFillol - Andrade, Figueroa, Passarella, N.Santos - Monti - Messi, Di Stéfano, Maradona - Ronaldo, Pelé
Naratorn, congratulations for the new combined positional rankings. They look amazing.
ReplyDeletePlease let me state as a Roma fan that Alessandro "Amantino" Mancini was a left winger. He played as a full back just in two seasons out of his entire career. As a fullback, I want to suggest the brazilian Toninho (António Dias), who had to compete with Nelinho first and Leandro later for a spot in the National Team but was considered amongst the best full backs in Brazil.
