Explanation of Formation

The team strategy is a Magic Square of Midfield. Yashin stands as a final wall. Defensive line is balanced with two full-backs Maldini and Vogts and a partnership of central defenders. Maldini and Vogts would support the side-midfield area when C.Ronaldo and Puskas moves inside. Baresi is primarily a sweeper behind Moore but the role could be switched under the compulsory situation. Beckenbauer is a defensive holding midfielder, is responsible for stop the opponents between the defensive and midfield area and is also an important player to create the game from the deep-lying midfield zone. Platini is a main creator of the team and has an important role to support scoring from midfield line. Cruyff plays as a free-role attacker. in an advanced role to support the front-line. Puskas is a weapon of the team to shot from any distance and also create assists to the teammates while C.Ronaldo will move inside as a second striker. Van Basten stands as a target man.

Are you going to post your top 100 European footballers?

You must put Berti Vogts instead of Thruam. You ranked vogts higher than Thuram in positional hall of fame.

    1. I select Thuram because of his higher peak than Vogts. The squad selection is given more weight in peak than positional hall of fame and it is an exceptional case that Thuram played as right-back in a few years before switch to center-back position where he was declined in performance.

    2. Thuram was born in Central America, on the island of Guadalupe, a French territory. Eusébio was born in Africa, in Mozambique, a Portuguese territory. Both played and made a career for European teams. Sorry, it is unfair to remove Eusébio from the European team for (apparently) legal reasons, when FIFA itself does not follow such guidance.

    3. Well, the significant between them is Thuram was relocated with his family to France at his 10 years old so he was growing up with early football background.

  4. the reason of the absence of Eusebio?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Mozambique did not exist as a nation in its time, so Eusebio was Portuguese.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Eusebio is named in all-time Portugal squad but the selection in the continental legendary museum is more identified on race and birthplace. All players who born in Africa and also 100 % succeed the African blood has been mentioned.

  6. On The Greatest European Footballers of All-Time you put Lev Yashin twice - position 14 and 17.
Sugestions for the free place :Stoickov,Riva,Dalglish,P.Rossi,Nordhal,Liedholm,Klinsman,Fontaine,Beckham,Rush,Zarra,Raul,Elkjær-Larsen,Stoikovic,Suker,Hidegkuti,Deyna,Lato,Shevcenko,Blochin,Zamora,Bloomer,Greaves,Keegan,Sammer,Bergkamp,Totti,Del Piero,....

    1. Thanks for notice repetitive rank of Lev Yashin. The space would be filled Gordon Banks at 50th (based on the list in competition level-based greatest ever)

    Cristiano Ronaldo 6 gold.

  8. Why don't you put Ronaldo on the forward line replaces for Muller? Even if he has played most of his matches at left wing forward, he still always tries to run into the penalty area to score huge amount of goals. Head attempts, finishing, clear-cut chances, he is good at all. Sorry for my poor English!

    1. Thanks for notifying. C.Ronaldo has been deserved a place surely and it had not been updated. Let me think to adjust the formation and update soon.

There is a mistake in your formation. You have to switch positions between Moore and Thuram.

    1. Some big names must be left out in order to keep team balance... here is my European 11...

      4-3-3

      Cruyff Van Basten Best
      Zidane Matthaus
      Rijkaard
      Maldini Kohler Baresi Lahm
      Schmeichel

      Delete
    2. There are very many right-backs better than Lahm. Other than that is OK.

      Delete
  10. Marco van Basten should be the first choice striker in an all time European team, he's the most complete number 9 to ever play the game.

    Replies
    1. He is not consistent enough for the selection of first eleven.

To have a more balanced team I would have done a 4231
    Yashin
    Vogts Moore Baresi Maldini
    Beckenbauer Matthaus
    Cruyff Platini C.Ronaldo
    Puskas

  14. Cristiano Ronaldo is the best european player, why do you have cruyff in first?7 times best euro golden player and cruyff only 3 times.i dont understand you,and I dont agree.i am portuguese and I think you are not fair.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Cruyff is unarguably a better player than CR7 as he is more complete in vision, passing and dribbling. I'm sure Cruyff played better than CR7 in a large number of games.

    2. Anonymous4/14/2023

Two great players , but in different eras ! In terms of titles and place on the field, CR7 plays winger, attacker and midfielder and in goals it's another conversation and there's no comparison!

Maybe the ranking should be updated , following the last changes you have made (Xavi, Iniesta). Same for America all of fame (I guess Neymar and Suarez are higher now)

I think De Bruyne should be in the squad. Special talent he is.

  19. Kubala doesn't make the top 50 of "The Greatest European Footballers of All-Time"? Which position did Kubala end up in?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Will you make a "Positional Ranking of European Footballers" here?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think the European list is not interested as I already set regional lists for European players and statistically around 74% European players are already in 9x100 positional ranking list.
