2014 - Portugal, B grade ?
ReplyDeleteyou were clearly not watching the same WC as the rest of the world. Portugal were abject, and rightly out before their last game.
I think Croatia deserves B- for 2014 World Cup.
ReplyDeleteI think it could be fine since Croatia even has a better goal difference record than Spain while they got the same point.
DeleteI thought, "Oh no, this is the same place he got stuck in patriots game live rehearsals."
ReplyDeleteI love football .. Thanks

This one is simply complex analysis. Hope so that this will make things good for me.I simply love watching games and among all football is my favorite. You people can take help from the latest sports news to know what's happening around.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you put 1920s olympics here when amateurs played there?
ReplyDeleteThe 1920 Olympics was the only world stage at that period. I think it is important.
DeleteAnd you take only these olympics to consideration when ranking players and calculating scores: 1920, 1924, 1928 as "world cup" and 1948, 1952 as minor tournaments?
ReplyDelete1948 and 1952 are counted in the same criteria as qualification round of world cup, higher proportion than minor tournament.
DeleteAnd 1920,24, and 28 olympics are calculated as 80% of a regular world cup?
ReplyDeleteBasically yes but finally the criteria is also depend on importance of other competitions. For example, since 1927 Central European competition was started so the criteria of Olympic is less than that of 1920 and 1924 for CE nations.
DeleteOk, thanks.
DeleteYou omitted the 1920 Olympic Games in the table. That tournament was the first "world football championship" organized by FIFA.
ReplyDeleteI will surely add when I have time. Thanks.
DeleteCan you add the 1920 Olympic Games in the table?

ReplyDeleteYugoslavia is featured twice in the 1990 list
ReplyDeleteIf I understand, for you 1990 world cup is the greatest standard because it was difficult to score. To me it came also from the mentality. Additionally to defensive strategy, defenders could compensate their lack of pace with brutality. You were given less cards than today, especially for your first foul of the game. Unfair fouls to stop a counter-attack were also not punished by cards. You could give the ball to your keeper also if needed.
ReplyDeleteOn the other way, even if sacchi or Cruyff may have started it a bit in club. You were not faced to Gegenressing like strategy that could give troubles to less technical defenders.
What I want to point is that this is your personal choice to give a high standard to this way of playing.
But today it becomes important because the standard you give to a world cup seems to matter a lot as you give only OW (and not SW) to Messi WC 2022.
This is not obvious at all for many people.
your inputs would be really appreciated on the subject.
